"Amazing Race" held in Roanoke County to benefit area families

It was an Amazing Race of a different kind in one hometown.

The first annual Muscular Distrophy Association Muscle Walk Amazing Race was held at the Green Ridge Recreation Center in Roanoke County Sunday afternoon.

Families of MDA clients as well as corporate sponsors competed in relays and team-building games.

Baked goods and massage therapy sessions were also available.

The MDA helps people who live with one of 43 neuromuscular diseases including ALS and Lou Gehrig's Disease.

The organization provide important life-saving services to about 1000 people and all of the funds raised at Sunday's event will help to provide services to MDA client families.

Organizers hoped to raise about 30,000 dollars at the event.
