Roanoke, Va.---
A Floyd County native has traveled around the country with his sculptures and installation projects. Now, Charlie Brouwer finds himself back in the Roanoke Valley with his latest project. With "Rise Up Roanoke," Brouwer hopes the community will take action in helping make his vision become real.
He will use ladders to build a 50 foot replica of the star on top of Mill Mountain in honor of the Star City.
The structure will be featured at the Taubman Museum of Art throughout the month of March.
Brouwer says the ladders are symbolic metaphors of achieving hopes and dreams and wants residents of Roanoke to donate ladders to become part of the installation.
Folks can drop off ladders at the Taubman Museum on February 19 and 26 from 10:00 a.m. until 5 p.m. Those that would like their ladders back can pick them up starting April 6. Unwanted functional ladders will be donated to the Habitat for Humanity in the Roanoke Valley.
The public is invited to the Taubman to watch Brouwer build the installation on February 26 and 27, as well as March 1 and 2.
