In eight days 85 billion dollars in spending cuts will hit the federal budget.

Despite party differences Congressman Robert Hurt is hopeful his colleagues will keep it from happening.

Hurt took a break from Washington today to stop by God's Pit Crew in Danville to hear its successes.

He is due in Washington his weekend to continue monitoring the sequestration debate.

"I think most people agree that having ham handed, across the board cuts is just not the way to go. We on the house side have offered up on two different occasions ways to avoid that. But we were unable to penetrate the senate and unable to get the president's attention," Hurt said.

The cuts would affect every department in the federal government.

The deadline for Congress to make a decision is March 1.
