With the old coke sign and a dog on the front porch, Terry's Country Corner is an iconic general store.
"You always check here first because Bob always has at least one of everything you need," said Patricia Miller, friend of the store's owner Bob Terry.
Gone for the past two months, Terry is just now getting back to the job he loves.
"I feel pretty good!" Terry told News 7 Friday. "My strength doesn't hold up for very long and I'm still weak."
The fact that he's even back at work is something friends call a "miracle."
Terry was savagely beaten during a robbery at his store in October. The 80-year-old spent five weeks in the hospital, recovering from severe head and facial injuries.
"I've always considered something happening, but not the way it happened," Terry said of his attack.
Terry has owned his store for 32 years. Giving up the business simply wasn't an option.
"You might say this is my lifestyle," said Terry. "I'm not going to sit at home and watch TV all the time."
Despite his upbeat attitude, Terry had some big odds to overcome. He lost 40 pounds after the attack and had trouble talking for a while.
"It's a very big victory to see Bob in the store," said Miller, adding that prayers and overwhelming community support helped her friend bounce back quickly.
"He is almost back to normal," Miller said. "He's still weak, but he is very back to normal."
And now that he's back, he's here to stay.
"I will continue on until I just have to give it up," said Terry. "I care about it too much to give it up just for this."
Terry is easing back to work slowly, coming in for just a few hours each morning until he feels strong enough to work the whole day again.
