A Bedford County man is headed to prison for 30 years for sexually assaulting two young girls last summer.
Timothy Craig Elmore was sentenced in Bedford Circuit Court Friday. The 40 year old pled guilty in January to multiple sex crime charges.
Bedford County Commonwealth's Attorney Randy Krantz says Elmore assaulted two 12-year-old girls in Thaxton on two different days last June.
Elmore's 30 year sentence is considered a heavy punishment because it exceeds the state guidelines for the offenses he committed, meaning he could have received less time in prison.
According to Krantz, Elmore had already been convicted of sex crimes in Franklin County and had served time behind bars when he committed his crimes in Thaxton. Elmore only served about 18 months in prison for his Franklin County offenses.
Krantz says it is unlikely Elmore will get out of prison early this time. Even if he does, Krantz says Elmore will be on supervised probation for at least 10 years and declared a sexual predator for the remainder of his life.
Family members of Elmore's victims were on hand for Friday's sentencing. Krantz says they were "very happy" with the punishment that was handed down.
