One of the Blacksburg's oldest churches, has decided to sell.
On Sunday, Blacksburg Baptist Church voted overwhelmingly in favor of selling the entire block to a private developer in Georgia.
Many neighbors and business owners around the church, said they were never told the property was up for sale.
Blacksburg Mayor Ron Rordam says while no one from the church has contacted the town yet about its plans, he knows the value of long term planning.
"When we look at our comprehensive plan, when we look at the downtown planning sector, those churches are mentioned as anchors to the downtown and they're important parts again as I said earlier."
Before the sale is final, the town must agree to remove a historic designation from the property AND the town must agree to rezone the property.
