A man in Blacksburg is facing charges after police say he set his mother's house on fire.
Officers say the mother called police around 9:00 p.m. Monday night.
She told them her son was trying to set a side of her house on fire on Houston Street.
The house was in flames when officers got there.
Investigators say the fire spread inside the home quickly.
Officers got the woman and her son out of the home safely.
It took fire crews more than two hours to put the fire out.
Police arrested Terry Ray Smith.
He's in jail without bond.
Investigators say the fire caused more than $200,000 in damages.
