This, after residents got word that convicted rapist, Calvert Anthony Thompson, could be moving into a home now being built.
We talked to several people in this neighborhood who didn't want to go on camera, but they are concerned for their young children and wives who walk and run through the neighborhood.
The on-line sex offender registry, shows Thompson was convicted of sexual battery in Tennessee in 1998 and in 2009 he was found guilty of a Roanoke rape.
He got a 40-year sentence, but 38 of those years were suspended.
He's now on probation.
The neighborhood's attorney, Mike Doherty tells WDBJ7 residents have signed petitions and written letters to the state Attorney General's office in hopes of keeping Thompson from moving in.
But, according to Roanoke defense attorney Deborah Caldwell-Bono, that might be a challenge.
Caldwell-Bono isn't involved in this case, but tells us, Thompson may have the right to live there.
Explains Caldwell-Bono, "The current law prohibits where sex offenders can be like schools, daycare, public parks -those types of places, but for that, he can live wherever he can find a place to live."
The neighborhood's attorney says the group is still pursuing its options.
Calls to Mr. Thompson haven't been returned.
