Christiansburg man killed in Roanoke County crash
A Christiansburg man was killed Tuesday in an accident on an off ramp of Interstate 81 in Roanoke County.

The accident happened around 12:15 p.m. Tuesday on the I-81 North Exit 141 ramp, off Route 419.

61-year-old David Ray Allen was killed when his Toyota pick-up truck was hit by a tractor-trailer.

Allen was on the off ramp when the traffic light turned green. Allen drove into the roadway and was hit by a tractor-trailer headed north on Route 419.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, Marvin Lee Vlastuin of Roland, Oklahoma, was charged with disregarding a red light.

Allen was not wearing a seat belt.

He was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital after the crash where he was pronounced dead.

The Virginia State Police are continuing their investigation into a fatal crash which occurred at approximately 12:14 pm on the northbound I 81 Exit 141 off ramp @ Route 419.
A 1987 Toyota was on the off ramp when the traffic light turned green and the driver proceeded out into the roadway and was struck by a tractor-trailer that was traveling northbound on Route 419.

The driver of the 2007 International tractor-trailer (Cal-Ark Transport Hurricane Mills, Tn) Marvin Lee Vlastuin, DOB 9/4/1954, of Roland, Oklahoma was wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash but was not injured.
He was charged with Disregarding a Red Light. The driver of the Toyota pick up David Ray Allen, DOB 9/24/1950, of Christiansburg, Virginia was not wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash. Allen was transported by ambulance to RMH and was pronounced dead a short time later. No further details regarding the crash are available at this time.
