The traffic detour after an elevator malfunction in downtown Lynchburg has been cleared.

Traffic in downtown Lynchburg is detoured because of an elevator problem at a downtown office.
An elevator in the Allied Arts Building malfunctioned Tuesday afternoon. Traffic on Church Street is being detoured. No one was hurt when the elevator malfunctioned but city firefighers are assisting people trying to get down from the upper floors.
Witnesses say a person was inside the elevator when it started going up and down without control. The person inside the elevator was able to get the doors open on the 17th floor of the building.
Church Street is currently closed.
