A man running for congress in our area is sharing how he plans to help Virginia families.
John Douglass is traveling around the state this week, unveiling his "Help Virginia Families" plan. He made stops in Bedford and Danville Monday.
The democrat is running against republican Robert Hurt for a congressional seat in the fifth district, which stretches from the North Carolina border to the suburbs of Washington D.C.
Douglass wants to bring job creators and job seekers together through training. He's against uranium mining in Virginia, and wants to save taxpayer money by pulling theU.S. militaryout of Afghanistan.
"There's got to be more revenue and less spending," Douglass said "You need to find that balance, and you need to find the balance that will stimulate the economy and get the economy growing."
Douglass is a retired Air Force Brigadier General. He wants to expand job training and health care for military veterans.
