Congressman Bob Goodlatte and Andy Schmookler trade jabs

6th District Congressman Bob Goodlatte and opponent Andy Schmookler are vying for the same congressional seat. While one may be the apparent frontrunner, it's going to be a fight to the finish.

Goodlatte made a stop at the Roanoke Rotary Club this afternoon. The incumbent congressman says he knows which issues are most important to his constituents: job creation, tax reform and putting an end to wasteful spending in Washington. “They don't want more big government. They want this government brought into check and they want job creation,” said Goodlatte.

Schmookler says Goodlatte is dishonest to the American people and says Goodlatte blames the gridlock in Washington on Democrats in the Senate. Schmookler also says Republicans in Congress are more interested in playing politics than focusing on real issues like job creation. “I'm honest, my opponent is not. I will represent the interests of the people, the average citizen not just the rich and powerful. That's different from my opponent, said Schmookler.
