People in Roanoke are counting down to an annual holiday tradition.
"Dickens of a Christmas" kicks off in just five days with the Christmas Tree lighting. The tree will stand at its original location on Salem Avenue. The lighting ceremony begins at 5:30 this Friday evening. It includes performances by local choir groups.
Two other events round out "Dickens of a Christmas." The City of Roanoke Christmas Parade happens Friday, December 14th at 6:30pm. It will follow it's usual route starting at the the intersection of Elm Avenue and Jefferson Street.
Then on Friday the 21st, the SPCA will hold its Pet Costume Contest on Salem Avenue at 5:30pm. If you want your pet to take part, be there by 5:30 to register.
That same night, organizers are guaranteeing snow! On the night of the 21st, as much as ten tons of snow will be brought in to cover Market Street. Kids will get the chance to sled and play around in the white stuff.
