UPDATE: No one hurt after Bedford County house fire Tuesday night

The Red Cross is helping eight people who were forced from their home by a fire.

It started around 11 p.m. Tuesday night on Sharp Turn Road near Stewartsville in Bedford County.

Four adults and four kids, including a newborn, ran into the woods when a shed, garage, and the single-wide mobile home they were in went up in flames.

The smoke was so bad they got trapped out in the woods and had to call 911 for help.

Firefighters were able to find them and lead them to safety.

The nearest fire hydrant was 2,000 feet down a mountain.

Firefighters had to run hoses through two firetrucks to get water pumped up to the fire.

They got it completely out around 2:30 a.m.

A man who lives there says he dropped a cigarette on the ground shortly before the fire started, and he thinks that's what caused it.
