Crews working to rescue hiker on the Appalachian Trail

Crews in Roanoke County are in the middle of rescuing a hiker Friday night.

This is happening right near the entrance to the Appalachian Trail along Catawba Valley Drive.

Authorities say the terrain of the area still has snow on it so it's making the rescue a little more difficult.

They add that the hiker wasn't prepared for the snowfall, and called for help.
