Some Roanoke kids pedaled around on their bicycles to raise money for a good cause Saturday morning.
Some children showed up for a bike-a-thon at the Forest Park Baptist Church to benefit the Henrietta Lacks Foundation.
Henrietta Lacks' cancer cells were taken from her without her knowledge and have become one of the most important tools in medicine.
The foundation was founded by Rebecca Skloot, the author of "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks".
It helps other people who have been involved in scientific research without knowing.
"Without Henrietta Lacks and her cells there would have been no polio vaccine. Her cells were sent up into outer space to see how humans would react in space. Her cells have been used for glue manufacturers, cosmetic manufacturers, blood pressure medicine," said Marion Ware, the event organizer.
Henrietta Lacks was a Roanoke native.
She died in 1951.
