The opera world is remembering a groundbreaking star who grew up singing in church in Danville.
Camilla Williams died yesterday.
She was 92.
Born in Danville in 19-19, she became the first African-American woman to sing with a major U.S. opera company.
In 1963, she sang the National Anthem before Martin Luther King's I Have a Dream speech.
Later in life, she taught music at Indiana University
In Danville, her legacy lives on through a park along Memorial Drive named in her honor.
