People in Danville will soon have more room to walk and drive. City council approved a proposal at last night's meeting to widen sidewalks along a three block stretch of Main Street.
VDOT will cover half of the nearly three million dollar project.
Crews will also ad benches and landscaping to Main Street.
It's step one in the city's massive makeover of the new River District.
"We'll repave the streets, we'll have it more pedestrian friendly, new benches and trees any kind of other, trash receptacles, everything will be new, new signage," said David Parrish, Danville's Deputy City Manager.
Across the river, a section of Mount Cross Road will also get a face-lift. The two lane road will be widened to four with a turn lane and median.
Work on both projects is expected to begin this year.
