Demolition begins on Foodtime convenience store in Blacksburg

Demolition has begun on the Foodtime convenience store in Blacksburg.

It's at the corner of Clay Street and South Main.

This is the store that has a mosaic on it that was created by Blacksburg Middle School students in 2001. Since the mosaic was created on part of a retaining wall, the mosaic will be torn down as well.

That wall is expected to be gone by 5 p.m. Monday.

The mosaic stands about 10 feet high and stretches about 20 feet wide.

Once demolition is completed, the old Foodtime store site will be a mixed use development site.

The Foodtime store was built more than 40 years ago.
