Despite losing national competition, Lynchburg officials vow to build dog park

It's the moment Lynchburg's dog-park supporters were anxiously waiting for, but unfortunatly it wasn't the news they wanted to hear.

The pet supply company "PetSafe" announced Friday afternoon that Lynchburg did not win the $100,000 grant to build an off-leash dog park.  The city was beat out by Huntington, West Virginia.

Dog park supporters have spent the last three weeks rallying votes for the online contest, called "Bark for Your Park."  Dozens gathered at Lynchburg City Hall Friday to learn the final results.

Lynchburg competed against 15 other cities for the grant.  City officials say they will start raising money now to make sure Lynchburg does get its dog park.
