Women in Pittsylvania County who can't afford a mammogram now have the opportunity. The Free Clinic of Danville is offering screenings at a lower price for women 40 and older.
The clinic received a $38,000 grant from the Roanoke Valley Susan G. Koman fund to cover 200 mammograms.
Staff say early detection and prevention is a service Danville women need.
"Over 100 last year were left on the waiting list unable to get the mammograms done so this lead us to realize that we really need to apply for a grant," said Patti Schwemer, the Free Clinic's executive director.
The clinic's executive directors says Pittsylvania County women normally don't get screened because they can't afford it which could lead to breast cancer later on in life.
