The Dumas Center in Roanoke held it's annual Black History month event earlier this evening.
The "Showtime At The Dumas" event honored native Roanoker and Goddess of Soul Jane Powell
A local band entertained guests during the main event, and there was a video tribute to Powell as well.
Organizers say the event is a wonderful way to honor the service and dedication of people across the community.
"The ultimate goal tonight would be to again, honor Jane. Let her know that people here in the city do appreciate her giving herself so much and so willingly," said event coordinator, Germaine Fletcher
This is the second year the event has been held.
The event was co-sponsored by the group, Music That Lasts Forever and the William Fleming Class of 1987
