McDonnell campaigns with Poindexter in Franklin County

General Assembly elections this fall promise to set records for campaign spending. Thursday afternoon, Franklin County Delegate Charles Poindexter turned to Governor Bob McDonnell for some fund-raising help.

McDonnell visited Rocky Mount for a lunch with Poindexter's supporters.

One week after Democratic Delegate Ward Armstrong said the state's power companies were funneling contributions to Poindexter through the Governor's political action committee, McDonnell said the charge was "silly."

"We've donated 50-thousand dollars to him," McDonnell told reporters during a news conference before the lunch, "but there's going to be a lot more, a lot more than any power company has donated to me. So listen, I know that people make claims during the course of the campaign to try and make a point. In this case they're stretching a point."

A spokesman for Poindexter said about 100 supporters turned out for the Governor's visit, raising more than 25- thousand dollars for the Republican Delegate's campaign.
