She was a courageous youngster with a big heart and big dreams. Cherokee "Stormy" Davis battled a number of health problems in her brief 14 years, including kidney disease. Thursday, she lost her battle. Her latest health issue was a possible thinning heart valve. Tonight in Rocky Mount her family is mourning her death and celebrating her life as they plan to bury their beloved "angel", as they called her.

Her father, Matt Davis, says he’ll miss his daughter but he knows she’s not having to deal with pain. “She's in the hands of the Lord--she's not suffering. I'm sure she's happy,” he said.

Julie Davis, her mom, is trying her best to deal with the pain of losing her only daughter. “God gave me a perfect little angel,” she said.

An open visitation will take place tomorrow evening at the Flora Funeral Chapel in Rocky Mount from 6p.m. until  8p.m. The funeral is scheduled for 2p.m. Monday.
