UPDATED 11:10 a.m. Friday:

Investigators in Pittsylvania County are searching for the cause of a fire that hit too close to home for firefighters.

It happened Thursday night at the Brosville Community Volunteer Fire Department. That's west of Danville.

The fire chief says it will take a while before this fire department is fully operational again.

Right now, state fire investigators are looking for a source of the fire that damaged two fire trucks and the inside of the building.

The call came in Thursday night before eight.

Crews say they got the fire out in a matter of minutes, but the damage will take months, if not years to fix.

The fire practically swallowed a new crash truck and melted lights on a ambulance.

The fire chief estimates about $1 million dollars worth of damage to the building.

Crews throughout the county spent most of the night cleaning what they could.

In the meantime, three area volunteer fire departments are covering the Brosville area.

Friday morning Pittsylvania County fire marshals handed off their investigation to the state.

They predict it will take them most of the day to determine a cause.

A new crash truck, an ambulance, and the inside of the building were damaged.  Estimates right now are well over $350,000.

No one was hurt, and crews don't believe anyone was around the building when it started.

Crews say the fire was out in less than 10 minutes of the first truck arriving.  Six departments throughout Pittsylvania County responded.

"To see one of your own, this is like brotherhood," Tunstall firefighter Bob Thurman says.  "This is brethren, you know family when a fire department goes up. This is my first one and yeah everybody, like I said I rushed here no matter what I was doing, we got here as quick as possible."
