Firefighters know what caused a fire inside a home at 529 McDowell Avenue in Roanoke.
When crews arrived Sunday afternoon they found light smoke coming from the attic dormer. They determined that the fire was electrical and it damaged a ceiling joist.
Two people were in the house when the fire started, but managed to get out safely.

On Sunday, February 17, 2013, Roanoke Fire-EMS responded to a small fire at
529 McDowell Ave. The fire call was received in the E-911 Center at
approximately 4:32pm and was under control and extinguished at 4:49pm. 16
personnel responded to the scene.
When crews arrived they found light smoke coming from the attic dormer.
Crews made entry into the attic. The fire was found to be electrical and
had damaged a ceiling joist. Firefighters put the fire out with 2 water
cans (water fire extinguishers).
Two people were in the house when the fire started. They escaped without
injuries. The cause of the fire was electrical and damage estimates are
approximately $5,000.
