So we're bringing you Fit Friday every week leading up to the race.
This week’s focus is the importance of stretching.
Many personal trainers say stretching before and after a workout is very important, but not many people stretch after.
Experts say to think of the muscle as a sponge; stretching the muscle allows more blood to get inside.
More blood means more oxygen, which means the body can perform and recover better.
“A nice warmup, get the blood flowing and then you want a light stretch to help get that blood flow into the muscles before you start exercising and that also helps you prevent injury,” personal trainer Leonard Jones said.
