Flights headed to Roanoke diverted because of wind

Two US Airways flights to Roanoke were diverted Monday afternoon because of dangerous wind conditions.  The flights from Charlotte and Philadelphia landed in Greenboro.  Passengers will be bussed to Roanoke.

An airport spokesowman said wind speeds reached 32 knots (about 37 miles an hour) and wind shear was recorded at more than 41 knots (about 47 miles an hour) at the time the flights were to land in Roanoke.

US Airways told airport officials they expect wind conditions to cause problems at the airport through the night.
