From a wedding proposal to birthday wishes, a sign in Christiansburg is the place to make a big announcement.
A sign in front of Gates Flowers and Gifts is near a busy intersection, and it's a place most drivers check out.
James Pharis is the owner.
Besides selling flowers, of course, messages on his sign out front have proved to be profitable.
It's 50 cents a letter.
That includes both sides for one day.
The messages started appearing every once in a while in the 90's but really took off in 2000.
There's a wide range of messages too, including everything from memorials to celebrations.
"The children love seeing their name on the sign because it makes them king and queen of the day," said Erlene Barber, Assistant Manager of the flower shop.
The owner and staff typically have the messages up by 8 a.m. everyday, 7 days a week, including holidays.
They don't have a message only 5 to 10 days out of the year.
