Flying during the busiest time to travel

It's the Friday before Thanksgiving and many people are either picking up family from the airport or planning to board a flight.

While some late travelers scrambled to check in, their flights checked out.

Lisa Smith landed in Roanoke from Berlin. After four airports, different countries and several missed flights, she admits she did not arrive early. "I missed my connection last night and didn't get my bags," said Smith.

Roanoke Regional Airport’s Marketing and Communications Coordinator, Amanda Dehaven says punctuality’s most important when flying, especially on the Friday before Thanksgiving. "All students from the areas colleges and universities are letting out today. They’re all eager to get home for the holiday season," explained Dehaven.

To avoid the headache of missed flights and no bags, airport staff says to arrive two hours before your flight and try to check in online, twenty-four hours in advance.

If you plan to pack liquids, remember the 3-1-1 rule; only three ounces of liquid or smaller, in a one quart clear plastic bag, in one carry-on.
