Local military veterans were honored this morning at a ceremony in Franklin County.
The annual Memorial Day service was held at the Franklin County Veterans' Memorial Park in Rocky Mount.
Franklin County Commonwealth's Attorney who's also a U-S Navy veteran, Cliff Hapgood, was the guest speaker.
"We can in some small way feel their suffering, because we too have suffered without them," said Hapgood. "We have suffered for the lack of their guidance, their friendship and their love. And there is an emptiness in all of our hears that can never be complete, that can never be overcome, no matter how hard we try."
Rocky Mount's own, The Wright Kids, sang the national anthem.
The popular bluegrass group was featured on America's Got Talent in 2009.
After the ceremony, veterans and their families enjoyed lunch at the Henry Fork Church of the Brethren.
