Goodwill may be known for its bargains, but now some of those deals are going to the highest bidder.

In May, Goodwill started hosting auctions.

Every other week, items that have overstayed their welcome at the store, head to the auction block.

Previously, items like electronics, home goods and bikes would've gone to the landfill or a salvage company.

"Our auction allows us to keep product out of the salvage stream, put it back into the community for reuse and recycling. It's another step to provide revenue for our company to provide increased services," explains Goodwill's Mark Brittain.

While the organization is blaming rainy weather for keeping people away this month, it says overall, this year's donations have been up from last.

The auction will take place Saturday morning at 8 o'clock at the Goodwill on East Main Street in Salem.
