With the election less than a month away, candidates are ramping up the ads. Many of you are tired of seeing them.
But there's a new one that's highly controversially that stations like WDBJ7 will have to play.
Independent Presidential candidate Randall Terry is on the ballot in seven states including West Virginia and he's running ads across the country that even the candidate says will enrage people.
Randall Terry makes no apologies for his ad which he admits does show graphic images. He's using this election season to push his radical anti-abortion agenda.
WDBJ7 has added a disclaimer before Randall Terry's ad.
"With any programming that we have that we think might shock viewers or bother children we put a disclaimer on," says WDBJ7 General Manager Jeff Marks.
WDBJ7 General Manager Jeff Marks says there are federal rules and that's why the ad must run as is.
"Any ad from a senate candidate, from a house candidate or presidential candidate that includes that part that says 'I'm so and so and I approve this message' by law we can't tamper with that," says Marks.
We spoke with Terry via Skype in West Virginia. He defends his ad.
"We always get reaction from these videos," says Terry, "That's why we air them."
Terry's current ad is called "Samuel L. Jackson is carrying water for Racists". In addition to the pictures of aborted fetus' the ad includes racially charged images such as a burning cross.
We asked Terry to explain his message.
"One is to challenge African-Americans to rethink their position on Planned Parenthood," says Terry, "They're obviously a black genocide, racist organization."
He's not concerned if children see this ad.
"Most kids before they leave elementary school have seen a thousand murders on television, they've seen horrible images on television," says Terry.
Terry plans to spend upwards of $250,000 on ads across the country. He claims donations from people who agree with his message fund these ads.
