They say it makes it seem that carrying a firearm in county parks is illegal, even though it's not. That's why they organized a protest and picnic today at Green Hill Park in Salem. It's all about semantics. Members of the pro-gun group say they want to make sure their 2nd amendment rights are protected. The Virginia Citizens Defense League says the purpose of this protest is to bring awareness to an issue they feel is extremely important. This ordinance isn't a new one. It's been on the books for quite some time. The county issued a statement. It says: "Roanoke County respectfully disagrees with the group's position on our ordinance. What's written complies with state law and is not intentionally confusing or misleading. You can bring a gun onto a state park or Roanoke County park unless you're otherwise prohibited by law." Terrell Holbrook, the county's acting chief of police, says he will honor the 2nd Amendment and people will not be arrested for carrying guns in local parks.

Their meeting ends July 27. Speaking for the Obama administration Hillary Clinton has already given her blessing to this global gun grab calling for "consenus" in order to avoid loopholes. Clinton and Obama will do everything in their power to force it through the U.S. Senate sometime before the upcoming election. If passed your 'rights to bear arms' will mean nothing as the storm troopers did they will be coming to your door to collect your registered weapons and if dont dont have them off you go.
cxx... and Gandolfss - I don't intend any malice, but your comments are just as confusing as the report.
dude- I was going to make the point, but you already did, quite clearly!
Of course, any law (ordinance, statute, regulation, etc.) is intended only for those who value and give creedance to the purpose of law. Not for those who have no respect for the spirit of law and order, nor of course, those in a position of upholding said law.
There is already an overwhelming amount of pointless, and often redundant, laws written by people who should be working on ways to keep citizens free from being overburdened by regulation and on administering justice on those who disregards said laws. I've had about enough government intrusion into my law-abiding existence.
Just saying ...
It would be pretty handy if this story reported what the "confusing" wording is. It is the subject of the protest, and the story itself, but is omitted. Poor job.
I found this on the RC Municode website - you decide if you think it is confusing or misleading:
15-8(6) [totally irrelevant parts removed by me]
No person shall within a park use, carry or possess firearms, ammunition or combinations thereof, as expressly prohibited by statute, or air rifles, spring guns, pellet guns, paintball guns, bow and arrows, slings or any other forms of weapons potentially dangerous to wildlife and to human safety or any instrument that can be loaded with and fire blank cartridges, or any kind of trapping device.
