Halifax gets new police chief

Nearly a year after town leaders questioned the department's future, Halifax has a new police chief.

Kevin Lands is now in charge of the small police department with only four full time officers.

That's nothing new for Lands who comes to Halifax after heading another small town police department.

Lands has some ideas to make the force's presence better known in town.

"What I want to do is stripe the vehicles, get newer vehicles, look at all the options to make us a more visible police department. More presence in the town and just let them know that we're here for them," Lands said.

Last year a town councilman proposed closing the department because of a tight budget.

The council disagreed and started a job search earlier this year.
