UPDATE: Interstate 77 reopened after accident in Carroll County

Update:

V-DOT says all southbound lanes of I-77 are back open.  There still could be some traffic backups in the area.

Interstate 77 south in Carroll County is closed right now at mile marker 3. The Virginia Department of Transportation says an incident involving two tractor-trailers and three other vehicles is the problem.

Southbound traffic is backed up for several miles right now. They have set up a detour at exit 8 off soutbound I-77.

They aren't sure when the southbound lanes will be re-opened.

An incident involving two tractor trailer and three other vehicles has closed both southbound lanes of Interstate 77 in Carroll County at mile marker 3.  Southbound traffic is currently backed up for several miles. 
 
A detour is in place to route cars and smaller vehicles off southbound I-77 at exit 8.  The detour route is not suitable for tractor-trailers.
 
No estimated time for reopening southbound I-77 in Carroll County has been established at this time.
