James River High School wants Staunton River students to win annual radio contest

One Botetourt school is living up to the holiday motto, it's better to give than to receive.

For the past five years, James River High School has won 94.9 Star Country's Toy Mountain contest. The school that submits with the most text messages, gets a concert with an up and coming country musician. This year, James River students put their texting talents to the test to help someone else.

"We know how exciting it is. A couple seniors were like maybe we should do something for Staunton River. So let's vote. Vote for them and let them have a concert that brings them together, so they can have happy times after the losses they suffered," said Senior Teresa Theimer.

Staunton River suffered several tragedies in November, after three students died in two automobile accidents. James River hopes others will rally around the cause.

"You know, James River High School, 500 kids, is not going to win it. We need to keep texting and get some other schools on board to text Staunton River as well so they can win," said senior Kyle King.
