Jones Broadcasting has acquired a television station in Roanoke that's been off the air for about two years.

President and CEO Gregory Jones tells The Roanoke Times that WDRL-TV is expected to be back on the air by mid-August with new call letters, WEFC.

The station's lineup will include religious programming, family-friendly shows, local and national sports and gospel music.

Jones says his company is the station, along with its Woodford headquarters, to a former movie theater at Crossroads Mall in Roanoke.

Jones Broadcasting owns 13 stations.

A legal dispute between the Roanoke station's former owners and Charter Communications forced it off the air and into a court-ordered receivership in July 2010.
