Is this unseasonably warm weather a big challenge to keep Roanoke's biggest piece of ice frozen?

The ice rink at the Roanoke Civic Center opened a few weeks ago.  Warmer weather this time of year doesn't make life on the ice too difficult.  Operations Managers say unseasonable temperatures prove little challenge as long as the air stays dry.

"When we get a big humidity. Humidity is the worst because we get a lot of moisture in the building which gives us trouble sometimes with keeping the ice as cold as we need it," said Civic Center Operations Manager Brian Kirk.

Pipes run under the ice to keep it frozen at a cool 18-degrees.
