A Lynchburg grocery store will undergo a $12 million expansion and create 50 new jobs.
Kroger announced Tuesday morning that it will expand its store on Timberlake Road. The construction will take 11 months, and increase the store’s square footage to 87,000 square feet, an increase of 34,000 square feet. According to Kroger, it will be the largest grocery store in the Lynchburg area. The store will also be remodeled, giving it a new storefront.
To make room for the expansion, three vacant shops will be demolished.
“We are pleased to invest in the Lynchburg market by expanding and modernizing the Timberlake store,” Carl York, a Kroger spokesperson, wrote in a news release. “Our loyal Kroger shoppers will appreciate the additional selection, new décor and additional parking.”
Kroger also has stores in Lynchburg on Wards Road, Boonsboro Road, Linkhorne Drive, and on Forest Road in Forest.
The Kroger on Timberlake Road currently employs 175 people.
