They were pretty to look at, now it's time to get rid of them.

Brown bags of leaves line the curbs of Roanoke neighborhoods waiting to be collected.

Crews will be out every other week, starting this week, working to collect biodegradable bags, but there are some rules.

"You can put out 50, 60, 100, 200 - we will pick them all up. If people still use their plastic bags that is considered bulk and we will only pick up 6 plastic bags on bulk weeks only," explains Skip Decker, Roanoke Solid Waste Management Division Manager.

The city hasn't picked up "loose leaves" for several years.

But, it asks people if you're hiring a contractor to pick up those leaves, please contact the city's solid waste management department at 853.2000, option 1, and let them know.
