Even though Tuesday's caucus is in the midwest, Liberty University has gotten caught in poltical rants, running an ad in Iowa that features one of the candidates.

In the quick commercial, Newt Gingrich promotes the school and now the New York Times is running a story, questioning how the ad is permissible under election laws.

The Times reports non-profits normally wouldn't be allowed to run ads like this, but a loophole in the law says Iowa's caucus isn't an election like a primary would be.

Liberty University did not return NEWS7's request for comment, but the school has told other media outlets the ad is designed to promote the university, not endorse Gingrich.
