Your skin might be different than my skin and your mother's skin or your neighbor's skin. You get the idea. Everyone's skin is different. That's the idea behind a new skin care system a local doctor's developed.
Pamela Cook has been using the new skin cream for the past month. "I used it one night and as soon as he put it on I could feel the difference," Cook said.
Cook said she could also see a difference. "The tightness in my skin. I noticed a reduction in my pores," Cook said. "I had some blackheads on my nose and since I started using that they're gone."
The new skin cream is called Avant Garde. Roanoke County Plastic Surgeon Dr. Michael Breiner developed the formula that's made up not only of ingredients meant to increase collagen production and minimize wrinkles, but also to heal the skin.
"It has rejuvenating products that helps heal the skin such as gingeng and green tea," said Dr. Breiner.
It also smells good, like cinnamon buns, according to Cook. Dr. Breiner added a touch of cinnamon for its fragrance, but found it also acts by exfoliating the skin and also helps the product penetrate the skin.
What truly makes this product unique though is that the cream that's developed for one person is different than the cream that's made for another person.
"Everyone' skin has a unique thumbprint and everyone's skin is different," said Dr. Breiner.
Based on that premise, everyone starts out using with the same base formula and then each month for the first six months Dr. Breiner meets with the client to tweak the formula. He either does that in person or a client can send him a digital photograph.
"So every month we're going to update your cream and add a little bit of this and a little bit of that," Dr. Breiner said. One patient may want something stronger, another made want more exfoliation. Someone else may want less exfoliation, Breiner explained.
"I think that most skin care products bring you up to a level and then you plateau and you just don't see the gains after a couple of months. This skin care product is going to be adjusted just for your specific skin care needs," Dr. Breiner said.
Dr. Breiner doesn't just make the cream he uses it too. "I do. I do," Dr. Breiner said. "I love it."
