If you drove on the Madison Heights Bypass around lunchtime Friday, you probably saw a traffic jam near the Monocan Bridge.

Officers and deputies from the Lynchburg area were holding a safety checkpoint.

With summer just around the corner and students about to get out of school, Central Virginia's Highway Traffic Safety Board wants to remind drivers to be safe.  That means buckling up your seat belt, and no texting behind the wheel.

Officers say Friday's checkpoint is extra important, because of all the deadly car accidents that have happened in the Lynchburg area recently.
