While some kids are enjoying sports and other day camps this summer, a group of at risk children in the Lynchburg area are learning the fun of science.
Randolph College is sponsoring a science camp at the Jubilee Family Development Center this week.
The camp is an effort to get children excited about science at a younger age, and break stereotypes about science professions.
Two Randolph professors started the camp about eight years ago. Their goal? Show kids that science can be fun.
"The second goal is to really try and get more of the children interested in studying science in their everyday lives," said Randolph College professor and camp instructor Peggy Schimmoeller. "Hopefully these children will be motivated to take higher level science in high school and college."
Participants of the camp learn about different science topics each day. News 7 was there Wednesday as students got a lesson on how to form bubbles from dry ice.
