Lynchburg elementary school competing to win money for safer playground
A Lynchburg elementary school needs your help to build a safer playground.

Linkhorne Elementary School needs to replace its old "PAL," which stands for "Play at Linkhorne."  The equipment was built 25 years ago and it's starting to fall apart.  Pieces are coming off and children are getting splinters from the old wood.

To raise money, the school is competing in a national contest sponsored by Clorox.  Out of hundreds of schools, Linkhorne is in 5th place.  The grand prize is $50,000.

"It's kind of like the American Idol of playgrounds," said Linkhorne Elementary School principal, Kathleen Sawyer.  "The school that has most votes wins, so we're trying to get this money into the school division so that we can have a new playground."
