A Lynchburg man is celebrating 50 years in the same job.
When Sanford Ferguson started carrying mail in 1962,John F. Kennedywas president and a gallon of gas cost 31 cents.
Five decades later, he's still delivering packages and letters on a route in Lynchburg.
Wednesday morning, his co-workers at the Fort Hill post office threw a party to celebrate his anniversary
"Once I start something I like to complete it," said Ferguson. "I just try to do the best I can. I've always said, if I can walk, I'm coming to work."
Ferguson delivered mail on foot until a few years ago, when he had to get both of his knees replaced.
The United States Postal Service presented Ferguson with a certificate and 50-year pin Wednesday, recognizing his accomplishment.
