Jay Sales, seen in a 2009 interview with News 7 |
A Lynchburg City School is under new leadership as their principal of 10 years is placed on administrative leave.
Jay Sales has been put on leave for an undetermined amount of time, according to Lynchburg City Schools spokesperson Leigh Farmer.
Sales has been principal at Sandusky Middle School since 2001 and has been with the Lynchburg school division since 1993.
Gloria Preston, Director of Student Services for Lynchburg City Schools, has been named acting principal at Sandusky.
The school system is not commenting on the circumstances surrounding Sales' reassignment, saying only that "the situation is a personnel matter" and that "students are not and have never been in any danger."
Here is the message that was sent out to parents on Friday:
Hello, This is Paul McKendrick, superintendent Lynchburg City Schools. This is to inform you that Mr. Jay Sales, principal of Sandusky Middle School, is currently on leave. The length of the leave has yet to be determined. For the immediate future, though, Ms. Gloria Preston will serve as interim principal. Ms. Preston is currently our director of student services. As a parent you may have questions about this matter, and therefore I would like to meet with you on Tuesday, February 22 at 7:00 p.m. at the school. Of course, the purpose of the meeting is to answer any questions or concerns that you may have. Thank you in advance for your assistance and cooperation in this matter.
