Lynchburg ranks among 25 best places to retire

If you're searching for a place to spend your golden years, you don't need to travel far.

Money magazine says one of America's best retirement communities is right here in our region.

Lynchburg is number 17 on the annual list of 25 best places to retire.  Albuquerque, New Mexico and Portland, Oregon top the list.

Lynchburg ranks high for people who want to settle in a college town.  City leaders say new residents are also attracted by the strong faith community and low cost of living.

"Lynchburg has so much to offer," said Rex Hammond, president and CEO of the Lynchburg Regional Chamber of Commerce.  "We have great colleges, a wonderful climate, beauty that's unparalleled.  I can certainly understand why people are interested in retiring in Lynchburg."

Money magazine praised Lynchburg for having a mix of history and contemporary amenities.
