Man arrested for shooting at a dump truck

A man is in jail after police say he shot at a dump truck in Pulaski.

Witnesses say Timothy Thompson shot into the truck Thursday morning on 1st Street in front of Virginia Church Furniture.

Police later caught him at the Dublin post office.

They found a couple of guns in his truck.

He's charged with several crimes and is being held without bond.

On February 16, 2012 at approximately 9:01am, the Pulaski Police Department received a shots fired call at 190 1st Street NW Pulaski VA in front of Virginia Church Furniture.  It was reported a vehicle had been shot, and witnesses reported seeing a red 2007 Dodge Ram pickup truck in the area just prior to the incident belonging to Timothy Thompson.  Employees from Virginia Church Furniture noticed a 2007 Mitsubishi Fuso Dump truck had damage from an apparent gunshot to an area on the driver’s side.  The vehicle was unoccupied and parked adjacent to the Virginia Church Furniture building that was occupied.  The vehicle fled the scene towards West Main Street.  Pulaski Police Department responded to the scene and initiated an investigation into the incident.  A radio broadcast was immediately issued to surrounding jurisdictions for the red Dodge pickup.

Dublin Police Department located the red Dodge truck at the Dublin United States Post Office along with its registered owner Timothy Thompson. Investigators from the Pulaski Police Department responded to the Post Office and Thompson was subsequently arrested and charged for Felony Unlawfully Shooting at an Occupied Dwelling, Felony Intentional Property Damage $1000 or more, Misdemeanor Unlawfully Discharge a Firearm within Town Limits.  Thompson 61 years old resides in Draper, Virginia and is being held in the New River Valley Regional Jail without bond.

Pulaski Police Department Investigators obtained and executed a search warrant for the 2007 Dodge Ram pickup truck registered to Thompson and removed various items of evidence along with several firearms.  The investigation is still on-going.
